Business Coaching Houston To Craft A USP Can Help Small Business Stand Out From The Crowd

I did a test on my small business service. I’m excited to tell you about it.

I bumped into it when I was talking to Houston small business owners about their business challenges.

There’s one trick every successful Houston small business owner knows and the others don’t. This trick is so effective, it works for any business. 

Regardless of industry or size.

Regardless of what you’re selling.

First, I spoke to 5 successful Houston small business owners in the service industry, ranked by sales. 

Then I spoke to 5 successful Houston small business owners in the manufacturing industry, also ranked by their sales.

For each successful Houston small business owner, I listened carefully to how they explained how their product or service was unique. 

I studied the replies. They had one striking likeness.

The Unique Selling Point or USP.


It’s the power behind why people want to buy from you and not your competitors. It is what makes you different. Not necessarily superior. 

These successful businesses had explained their difference in a simple, yet direct way. So customers could find it easy to grasp. They also could spot the difference. 

Somehow it stuck in their minds so well it helped them decide who they were going to buy from.

Great companies have 5 words or less to describe their main point. More could make it complex for buyer decisions. And people usually won’t stay long enough to find out.

But does that mean you have a bad message if it’s longer? 

I don’t know. You decide.

A great example is Apple’s “1000 songs in your pocket” about the iPod. 

It had just 5 words. It was clearer, different. It raised eyebrows.

There’s another piece of the selling point, which is equally important. It’s to answer a question left blank by your competitor.  This will need thought and action.

If you have a vision for your business and want people to hear your message, then be brief. Be clear. Don't be fancy. Don't make it so long that you lose your customer. Do it right and you’ll keep them forever. Almost forever.
