“7 Ways To Seize Time From Small Business”

The Management of Time

Do you manage your time? Or does time manage you? If you’re like most, you’ll answer it in one way. I don’t want to guess the way you’ll go.

It’s enough to say managing time is one problem that plagues most small businesses. And I mean not just small business owners. I mean people working in teams and all around them.

Then why don’t we practice managing our time? I don’t know. You answer that one.

It’s enough to say that any small business owner knows it’s crucial to manage time. It’s a condition you must follow to grow your business. It’s the work I do to help you from small business coaching Houston

Here are 7 ways for the small business owner to manage time effectively.

1) Accept You Need Time Management

The first step in any fix is the act of acceptance of the issue or problem. Once you do it, the rest finds its place.

When talking with one business owner, I explained how a good time management plan could help get them more time. Yet the reply was contradictory. “I know I need that but I don’t have the time for it”

2) Touch It Only If Ready To Take Action

Small business owners face many tasks each day.

When something seems important, take action right away.

If you’re not ready, file it away for action. Make a folder. Use a deadline or note such as “resolve invoice by 9/12”

3) Make List of 5 Key Tasks Daily

Make a list of 5 tasks daily. I define a task as one that produces a result. It could be a written document or action to resolve a problem. Or it could be some other result.

4) Plan Time For Each Task

If the task takes 4 days, use “Work on XYZ task” for 3 days on your calendar.

Once you resolve it on day 4, place it on your calendar as “Finished XYZ task”

5) Plan The Day

Now, this is different from just planning the time for each task. It’s adding trivial tasks or ones that interrupt regular work.

Examples are sudden phone calls or emails that ask for quick replies. Internet research could also take up a chunk of unplanned time

Set these times during the afternoon so you set the best time for morning sales conversations.

6) Focus First On Difficult Projects

Rank the projects. Switch off the Internet in the AM. Work on difficult projects first so you’re able to concentrate on producing results.

7) Decide To Throw Away Items That Won't Affect You

Small business owners don’t come back to more than 70% of paper work they get.

So ask: “Will I lose anything if I throw this away?” If the answer is no, then get rid of it. If there is a chance it’s important, then file it for action.

Taking the 7 steps will release time for you to take care of your small business. Even if you drift away, come back to the plan.

It makes sense to do it because you’ve ferreted out the core tasks that will change your business.
