First, pmo directors need to engage and know people so they can nurture their strengths and coach them for success. The leader needs to integrate his financial, accounting, project and buying methods so it's an advantage.

Second, pmo directors need to meet their customer and market needs. Here, it’s important to stay in touch with market changes and set goals according to the state of the market. The pmo director needs to act when some issue is not getting the right focus. The leader has to talk about great work and where he sees the need to improve.

Third, it’s important for the pmo director to craft simple messages so people can decide and act on their work. The purpose isn't to give people actions and leave them. The leader engages. He guides. He inspires people and paints their success story for all. He then, rewards the heroes who made it happen.

Fourth, pmo directors need to help people decide and act; follow up on their programs to ensure success. For example, the pmo director awards bonuses to the team according to the improved margins. Thus, the whole company then succeeds.

Fifth, pmo directors need to reward their staff; importantly, rewards need to be on time, The pmo director needs to adjust plans according to his view and how his team’s work affects the overall company.

Sixth, pmo directors need to understand why teaching is so important. Lasting leaders excel as teachers. They lead people to their strengths. If someone is failing, they give them a hand. They keep moving the needle on results and their trust in people.

Seventh, pmo directors need to be humble, while showing emotional strength so they lead the right way and make progress.  Successful companies have used timely training joined with interviews so leaders can learn, close gaps and lead the right way.
